Are there any standards for Additive Manufacturing? 1 FEBRUARY 2019

In the past few months, we kept receiving this question from our customers, especially now that many engineering organisations in the discovery stage and trying to adopt additive manufacturing to manufacturing parts or manufactured parts.

The good news is.. YES, there are indeed existing standards (with many more new ones being formulated in the pipeline)!

ASTM F42 was formed in 2009 and currently has more than 600 members worldwide. Currently there are about 22 approved standards while another 25+ are in development.

Each main committee in ASTM International is composed of subcommittees that address specific segments within the general subject area covered by the technical committee.

The focus are in these areas, namely Test Methods, Design, Materials & Processes, Environment, Health and Safety,  Terminology, US TAG to ISO TC 261.

We have been helping our customers understand what these Standards are about and how we could adopt these Standards for their AM parts.

So if there are any AM parts which you wish to discuss with us and will like to know more about the relevant applicable standards, feel free to reach out at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.!
