According to the latest 2018 annual Wohlers Report on the global 3D printing industry, there has been a whopping 80 percent increase in sales of metal 3D printing systems and an overall 3D printing industry growth of 21 percent. This is an increase from 17.4% growth just a year ago. While the 2017 market for AM polymers increased by 22.5%, demand for metal materials jumped 44.6% during the same time period, confirmed Terry Wohlers, president of the firm.
What this rising demand means, is that we will probably be seeing more AM systems and technologies supporting open material platforms and attaining faster print speeds with more cost-effective pricing.
